Life got away from me. — It really did.
I remember when I was first married, thinking about my family’s future and about kids. That idea seemed so far off, and I didn’t feel ready. Then life happened… We now have 3 kids and in the blink of an eye, they’re growing up–nearly grown in many ways.
As they’ve grown, I had a very fulfilling, but trying career. That career included significant travel, which meantime I missed a good chunk of the day to day time with them. Now, as I reflect, I have regrets because I wasn’t always there for them.
One of the most frustrating things as a parent is watching your kids make mistakes, especially mistakes that you already made–and learned from–yourself. I worry sometimes I didn’t do a good job of passing these learnings onto my kids. So, here’s my chance. I can’t change the past, but I can at least let my children know about lessons I consider most valuable, in the hopes they can learn from me.
How’s this going to work?
Well, my goal is to give 100 bits of advice over the next 100 days. — One article per day. If nothing else, I’ll have a good base for a blog at the end of this, and perhaps it’ll be something that my children will cherish. And if I help some other parents and kids out along the way, that’s great too.
